"In this video, I share my journey as a Haíłzaqv researcher investigating λíλábac̓i (clam gardens) and their significance for my Nation in the face of climate change. Rooted in ǧvíḷás (ancestral laws) and guided by ɫaxvaí (authority), my research centers the voices and needs of the Haíłzaqv community, ensuring our knowledge shapes the future of respecting and taking care of λábác̓i. The film illustrates how clam gardens are culturally and ecologically vital, embodying millennia of stewardship and adaptation. I explore how these ancient practices can inform modern approaches to climate resilience, particularly in addressing sea-level rise and protecting our food security. By engaging with Elders, youth, and knowledge holders, the video demonstrates the importance of intergenerational learning and community-led restoration efforts. Ultimately, this work honors the relationship between our people and the land, affirming our ongoing responsibility to care for λábác̓i as part of our broader journey toward self-determination and cultural revitalization." ~ Káníɫkás Desiree Lawson
